Definition

• shows the relationship between the action, event or condition and the subject or the people affected by it

• includes the following

  • active voice - the person or thing that performed the action is the subject of the verb

    • (A does B)  (I wrote this page)

  • passive voice - occurs in most aspect and tense and changes the emphasis 

    • to form the passive voice use "to be" with the past participle.  (B is done by A)  (This page was written by me.)

    • the subject and the direct object switch places. The direct object ("this page") becomes the subject in the passive sentence
