Drive America Introduction

Are you planning to travel to America for a vacation or to study English? If you are planning on driving during your stay, it is important to know the meaning of traffic signs, rules, and regulations. The police in America are very strict and will give you a ticket for even the slightest mistake. These tickets can cost a lot of money and you will need to spend time to pay the penalty at the appropriate agency. YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED.

Many of my friends, who were international students, received tickets because they did not understand the meaning of road signs, or the written English.

Learn all of the road signs in America and you can reduce your chances of getting a ticket.

All of the important road signs are covered on these pages. If you have any questions, post a comment at the bottom of any page. GOOD LUCK.
Sign Types

Basically three types of road signs are used in the United States....guide, regulatory, and warning.

Guide - Guide road signs show route designations, destinations, directions, distances, services, points of interest, and other geographical, recreational, or cultural information. Guide series includes general service, specific service, recreation, and emergency management signs.
Regulatory - Regulatory road signs give notice of traffic laws or regulations. These signs tell you when to stop, yield, where you can and cannot turn, where you can and cannot park, and when a train is coming, and more.
Warning - Warning road signs give notice of a situation that might not be readily apparent. Warning road signs typically have a yellow background color but the background color can also be orange or fluorescent-pink depending on the situation.
