From YOUR Teacher: Face Off

No your face is not going to come off. This idiom is used to describe a situation where at least two people are going to be at opposite ends of an issue and will get together to talk about it often ending up with fighting. In the sport of ice hockey, a face off is when two players await the drop of a puck which they then try to control.
